Running a business over the long term is a journey that takes you from point A to point B. The job of an Owner/Operator/Manager is to direct that journey. At Marinus, we believe the job of the Manager is similar to that of Captain of a ship or aeroplane and we see ourselves as Navigators – hence our slogan: "Helping Navigate the Course of Your Business"

A Navigator needs to consider many interrelated factors when plotting a course:

• Which way is the wind blowing?
• Which way are the currents flowing? How strong?
• Are these factors likely to change during the course of the journey?
• Are there any physical impediments on my chosen course? Rocks? Reefs? Land? Bad weather?
• Do I have all of the information available to me now, or is part of the journey uncharted?

Ultimately the Navigator needs to weigh up all of these issues and suggest a course for the Captain. In business, we see our role as Navigator for you the Captain in exactly the same manner. The challenges of strategy, competitive and regulatory environments, employees, motivation, processes, and so-on are all intimately linked and one element cannot be altered without considering the affect on another.
